On Above the Mess, and in our real lives, Rose, Izzy, and Madi tend to use a few terms for things that may be new to you! We decided to build a glossary, just in case:
Brain Bees [noun]: The buzzing in your head that makes it feel as though you cannot focus or think clearly. (Ex. The brain bees are really distracting me today; I have been sitting here staring at a task that should only take five minutes for two hours now!)
Brains [interjection]: expresses the emotion that can only be defined as annoyance with how brains make us feel and think sometimes. (Ex. Person A: “I did a bunch of work today but I still feel like it wasn’t enough.” Person B: “Ugh, brains. I know that feeling.”)
Having a day [verb]: to be experiencing a day in which things aren’t going wrong, but they aren’t exactly going right either. (Ex. Even though I woke up on time today, I still managed to get distracted and run behind schedule. I’m having a day.)
Jar [interjection]: usually shouted, indicates that the person in question needs to put money in the self-depreciation jar as a way of learning to be kinder to themselves. (Ex. Person A: “I am so stupid!” Person B: “JAR! You are not stupid, you just made a mistake.”)
Squirrel: [interjection]: expresses that someone has just been distracted by something new and shiny and completely forgotten about whatever they were doing before. (Ex. I went to the store to get cleaning supplies and twenty minutes later found myself trying on a new dress. Squirrel!)
